If you want to see what a gingerbread house looks like after it has been pillaged, come visit my house. Its sweet window trims, shingles and candied walls have all fallen victim to a sugar-addicted three-year-old. Poor thing never stood a chance.
The funny thing is, she thinks she’s being sneaky. She’ll run into the dining room, the gingerbread house will try to hold onto what’s left of its dignity, and then she’ll run down the hallway with her hand over her mouth. Chewing. Then she’ll hide behind a pillow while telling me with a full mouth, “I’m hiding from you. I’m not doing anything.”
It was no surprise then, that the following conversation took place before dinner tonight:
Me: What should we have for dinner?
Elliot: Maybe we should have candies. That would be silly.
Me: You know, Elliot, even though candies taste really good, they’re not really good for us. Only healthy food gives us energy and helps us to grow big and strong.
Elliot: Candy can help my hair and my body grow longer and longer.
Me: Really?
Elliot: Yup. It’s important for me, but not for you. Only for me.
Cue riotous laughter from Jay and me.
Elliot: Wearing her Seriously, I Mean Business Face – What? That’s the idea. I’m not joking!

So, to you, dear bloggy and real friends and family, may all the sugar you’re about to consume make you strong and more long than wide. Who doesn’t need that kind of Christmas miracle?
I wish you all the best during the holidays. Now if you’ll pardon me, I will be a bit scarce over the next few weeks in the land of Internets. (And please, fellow bloggers, I’m begging you to cease posting so that I have little to catch up on when I return).
Merry Christmas!

Wishing the Poot and Cubby family a wonderful Christmas!
Miss E and I decorated our gingerbread house yesterday and I am amazed that she didn’t eat it! She sampled a few little jellies – but so far the house is still standing in all it’s glory. I am nothing short of amazed, and was fully prepared for an Elliot style approach, here!
Wishing you a wonderful Christmas! Hope it brings you everything you want (like quiet, peace, time to yourself….the things we wish for….)
All the best in 2008 to you, Jay, Elliot and Mr. Arlo.
Love T.
Merry Christmas and may your family have a wonderful time!
My mom used to tell us that if we ate candy (or chips or McDonald’s or what have you) it’s okay with her, but we should really think twice because if you ate something like that, you didn’t grow that day. Only healthy foods made you grow big and strong a little bit each day.
My mom also told us that candy is only for unloved kids who don’t get enough hugs and need to replace the lack of affection with putting something sweet in their mouths, so think twice before taking my mom’s advice.
I’m sorry but I think she’s onto something here. I built a baby on ice pops (not the good for you kind) and create breast milk on a diet of double stuff chocolate oreo cookies and pop tarts
Have yourself a very very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and all that wonderful holiday stuff!!!!!!
Cute. So cute!
What a brilliant, brilliant girl! Merry Christmas!
Sacha also requires chocolate to make him grow. That and breakfast ham. In that order.
Must be a family thing.
Merry Christmas!
And tell Elliot that candy has made me grow round instead of tall, but I’m still hopeful.
Thanks. Merry Christmas to you too!
Merry Christmas! I’ll keep my posting to a minimum, promise
I remember big Zoom helping himself to Kip’s gingerbread house. Plain dog food just didn’t cut it for him at Christmas.
Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!
I can’t promise less posting though, I’ve got all of this spare time on my hands right now.
Happy holidays poot and cubby friends!
I think my daughter is convinced that candy helps HER hair grow long, too!
Thanks for the laugh–what a sharp, sweet girl you have…
i’ve only been gone for 3 days and my bloglines is out of control..it’s up over 1,000…and i fear it’s only going to get worse!
Merry Christmas!
Ok, lets hope this Christmas miracle of sugar and candy consumption will come true. Also, here’s wishing you & your family a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
Merry (late) Christmas and Happy New Year!
Hope you all had a Merry Christmas. I so wish her theory was true…..I have been doing waaaay to much growing wider lately.
That’s my girl.
Five it up Elliot.
[...] how was your Christmas? I hope there was much eating (and growing lengthwise – my scale is currently on a time-out in the closet) and fun family times. Oh, and Happy New Year! [...]
